Abstract

This study examines the importance and effects of structural modifications aimed at improving the acoustic performance of the tar and similar stringed musical instruments. Adapting traditional musical instruments to modern requirements is essential for both enhancing sound quality and ensuring ease of playability. The significance of the research arises from the need to find solutions to the structural issues encountered during the long-standing use of instruments like the tar. The primary objectives of this study are to ensure that the tar’s sound is more sustained and balanced, to resolve tuning issues, and to eliminate structural fragility. The research was conducted using experimental methods. Techniques such as making the angle between the neck and the bowl adjustable, applying new mechanisms to address tuning problems, and adding a resonator were implemented, and the results were analyzed. Additionally, innovative methods developed to solve the tuning drop problem of the drone strings were tested. The materials and construction techniques used in this process were examined in detail. The findings of the research demonstrated the positive impact of structural modifications on the tar’s acoustic performance, sound quality, and ease of play. In particular, the addition of a resonator and the use of mechanical systems strengthened the instrument’s sound and allowed the strings to remain in tune for longer periods. In conclusion, this study highlights the necessity of modernizing traditional musical instruments and making structural improvements to enhance musical performance. These findings serve as an important reference for future studies.
